Policies & Fees

I offer a free 15-minute consult to ensure we are a good fit prior to our first session.  This consult can be completed via phone or video.  Please contact me to schedule a consult.

Session cost: $180 per therapy hour.  Learn more about why I don't accept health insurance and the benefits of not utilizing insurance here.

Late Cancellation/No Show: $180

Letters, reports, and emails: $45 per 15 minutes

Court and legal proceedings: $200 per hour

Record copying and fees: Copies of records are available for a $21.88 retrieval fee plus $1.64 per page (per MN Statute 144.292, Subdivision 6).

Payment policy: I am a fee for service provider.  I accept debit or credit cards and HSA or FSA cards.  Payment is due at the time of service.  When you complete your intake paperwork, I will ask you to provide your card information.  Your card information is stored securely.  Your card will be charged for the cost of your session the same day as your session.

Health Insurance: I am an out-of-network provider.  I do not bill insurance companies directly; however, I am happy to provide you with a superbill if you would like to submit the cost of your sessions to your insurer for reimbursement.  It is your responsibility to contact your insurance company to find out if your benefits include reimbursement for out-of-network services.  Unfortunately, due to federal law, Medicare recipients are not able to request reimbursement.

Cancellation Policy:  I ask for 24-hours notice for any appointment cancellations.  If you cancel with less than 24-hours notice or simply do not attend a session, you will be charged the full session fee.  With that being said, I also understand emergencies can happen and do make exceptions for emergent situations such as hospitalizations, accidents, and severe illnesses.

Scheduling Policy: If you are contacting me to schedule an appointment for couples therapy, either member of the couple may schedule the appointment.  If you are contacting me to schedule an appointment for individual therapy, the person who will be attending therapy needs to be the person scheduling the appointment.

Letters and reports: If you need a letter for a work or school absence, please let me know and I will complete it and provide it to you in session.  If you need a letter or report for other reasons, please discuss this with me and I will let you know if it is something I can provide or not.  Time spent completing letters or reports are charged at a rate of $45 per every 15 minutes.  Payment for the letter or report must be provided prior to the letter or report being released to you.

Emails: As a general rule, therapy happens within therapy sessions and not via email.  If you do email me with something other than a brief logistical question or scheduling change, I will respond; however, those email responses are charged at a rate of $45 per every 15 minutes.  This fee will be added to your next session fee.

Crisis: I am not a good person to contact if you are in crisis as I am in and out of sessions throughout the day.  If you or someone you know are in crisis or need immediate mental health or suicide support, please contact the national suicide and crisis lifeline at 988, your local county crisis line, or 911.

Court and legal proceedings: I do not provide disability determinations, custody studies or evaluations, or court evaluations.  I do not appear in court on behalf of clients.  If I am required to appear in court on your behalf or client records are requested through subpoena or court order, you will be charged the full applicable amount under state law.  This includes all relevant record copying and retrieval fees.  This also includes a rate of $200 per hour for any testimony and related services such as travel, parking, meals, record review, preparation of reports, and time spent speaking to attorneys or other providers.  Furthermore, three weeks prior to the required court appearance or actions, you will need to pay a retainer fee of $1000.  Any unused retainer fee will be returned to you after completion of the court appearance.

Good Faith Estimate: Effective January 1, 2022 health care providers are required to give patients who do not have health insurance or who decide not to use health insurance a “Good Faith Estimate”.  A Good Faith Estimate provides as estimate of how much your medical care will cost.
