About

Margaret Light, MA, LMFT
MN LMFT Board-Approved Supervisor

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Minnesota.  I specialize in working with individuals, couples, and families and am passionate about providing high quality, specialized care to those who may not always have easy access to it.  Growing up and continuing to reside in rural Minnesota, I know firsthand how difficult or inconvenient it can be to access specialty care.  Having to drive long distances or take additional time off work or away from family for a single or short appointment adds additional stress or difficulty to what may already be a difficult moment or situation. I’ve seen my own friends and family drive three hours for a 30-minute appointment or have to cancel appointments that have been scheduled for six months because the weather made the drive unsafe- and then they have to wait another three months to get a new appointment scheduled.  Or, worse yet, they decide to go without all together because they feel there’s no other option.  And, that’s just for one appointment- no wonder therapy services, which require ongoing appointments, are underutilized in rural areas!

That’s why I created Equilibrium Therapy Services PLLC- to meet the needs of all Minnesotans, including those in rural areas who are often overlooked and underserved.  Now, you don’t have to go without care simply because of where you live.  I offer individual, couple, and family therapy services and specialize in treating trauma and stress related issues, sex and sexuality concerns, relationship difficulties, and general mental health issues.  Also, because this is a telehealth-based practice, you can access help from anywhere in the state of Minnesota without having to take additional time, outside of your actual appointment, away from work, your family, or your life.

I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota and obtained my professional development certificate in Sex Therapy at University of Wisconsin, Stout.  I’ve worked in several outpatient settings providing individual, family, and couples therapy; as an in-home therapist for families with Child Protective Services involvement; as an in-home therapist for individuals and families with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness; and in an emergency department providing crisis assessments and stabilization.  I am Level 1 Internal Family Systems (IFS) trained, Gottman Level 1 trained, and am Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) basic trained.

Prior to becoming a therapist, I managed an assisted living facility for adults with Traumatic Brain Injuries, worked as an Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS) worker and Children’s Therapeutic Support Services (CTSS) worker, and volunteered with the Sexual Violence Center as a sexual assault advocate.
