I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, AASECT Certified Sex Therapist, and owner of Equilibrium Therapy Services P.L.L.C., a private practice serving clients in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. I am also a Board-Approved Supervisor who oversees the training and development of new and pre-licensed therapists entering the world of therapy. As the wife of an automotive professional, I have long been intimately aware of the unique challenges facing automotive professionals and am dedicated to helping the field develop the necessary skills to excel both professionally and personally.
While I have a clinical interest in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of automotive professionals, I am also interested in helping owners, managers, and leaders in the field develop evidence-based management skills. As an expert in human behavior and systemic functioning, my goal is to bring a nuanced perspective to the complex task of balancing business interests with the inherent messiness of human behavior and development. As a trainer, my focus is on helping automotive professionals gain a deeper understanding of the realities of human functioning, while focusing on actionable skills that increase human performance and facilitate long term growth and development. My courses combine knowledge of the automotive profession with tips and tricks from interpersonal neurobiology, systemic theories of human relationships, and concepts from professional development models long applied to other professions. Grounded firmly in professional integrity, ethical decision making, and effective interventions, I seek to support automotive professionals in developing advanced management skills not traditionally offered to the field.
You can find my work in a variety of places including on the Ratchet & Wrench Podcast covering topics including the mental health toll of shop ownership, the role of mental health in decision making, and the role of support systems on mental health; on the Diagnosing the Aftermarket A to Z Podcast covering topics including automotive technician suicide, relationships and dating, shame, expectations, boundaries, and more; and at a variety of industry events including AAPEX, ASTA, Super Saturday, and MTTIA (for technical educators).
Services Offered
Individual & Couples Therapy (MN & WI Only)
As a field, automotive professionals tend to be less likely to seek support for possible mental health or relational concerns than other fields while simultaneously being more likely to face those very same concerns. If you are an automotive professional, you diagnose and fix problems every day, be it on cars, in your shop, or with other professionals. Unfortunately, mental health and relational issues can be hard to fix! If you're struggling with:
finding a balance between your work and home life
feeling hopeless, worthless, overwhelmed, or misunderstood
feeling stuck, exhausted, never good enough, or lost
are experiencing ongoing relational conflict, arguments, or disconnection
or any number of other issues, therapy can help!
It can be exceptionally hard for automotive professionals to seek support or admit when they're struggling. If you want a new perspective on the issues you're facing, to learn new relational or stress management skills, or help navigating an ongoing problem, you've come to the right place!
I offer both individual and couples therapy for automotive professionals and their families. Because therapy licenses are state specific, I can only offer therapy to folks in Minnesota and Wisconsin. If you are located outside of Minnesota or Wisconsin, I am happy to offer resources to help you find a therapist in your state.
